Mardi Gras Details
This is the signature New Orleans holiday, steeped in a long and beautiful tradition. It is more than just flashing skin for beads and drinking until you pass out. Go to the parades and you'll understand why those co-ed videos just can't do the holiday justice.Reservations must be made far in advance. To make sure you get the room you want in the best location, reserve 10-12 months in advance. Six months out and most of the rooms are gone. We have heard stories of people getting some last minute bargains from cancellations, but we don't suggest it.
Flights into the city are packed. Again, the earlier the better. Parking in much of the Quarter is difficult at best. Even Amtrak does a brisk business druing Mardi Gras, though it will be easier to get last minute train tickets than airline tickets.
We suggest planning your vacation before you arrive. We will be posting the parade schedule here a month before Mardi Gras. We will also have a list of the local gay events.
